We have welcomed a new member to the Carrington team — former journalist, Ellis Karran.
With his byline on tens of thousands of online news stories, Ellis brings first-hand knowledge and experience of what can attract media coverage, how to craft engaging content and copy, as well as ensuring relevant voices are heard.
Read below to find out more about Ellis’ career, background, and the public relations work he could do for you in the future.
Journalism
Ellis spent almost five years working at Lincolnshire’s largest independent publication, The Lincolnite. During his career there, Ellis navigated readers through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond with informative and impactful articles that gave everyday people the voice they needed to tell their stories.
It was here where Ellis would come into his element; writing over ten thousand topical news stories, interview pieces, sponsored posts, advertorials for clients and much, much more. He held politicians, public service bosses and similar authority figures to account on behalf of the people, exposed injustices, spotlighted life changing campaigns, and kept his finger on the pulse of some of Lincolnshire’s biggest stories in recent memory.
From General Elections to protests, Lincoln City’s play-off finals at Wembley to court reports, case studies to awards ceremonies, there’s precious little Ellis hasn’t covered.
As someone who holds a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and graduated the BBC-affiliated Kick Off Reporter scheme before moving into full-time work, it is an industry Ellis knows like the back of his hand, and cherishes dearly.
He said of this experience: “Working in journalism helped me to understand the importance of tone in writing and overall content, as well as the strength of key messaging that presents a brand in the best light. On a more personal note, it also taught me to believe in myself and my capabilities, as it became abundantly clear that I was actually pretty good at this.”

What he can bring to PR
Ready for the next chapter of his life, Ellis is preparing to bring his expertise to public relations, and plans to utilise these skills to help clients stand out from the crowd, communicate with accuracy and secure widespread media coverage for businesses.
Across those five years in the journalism industry, Ellis amassed a host of key contacts and strong business relationships, and he is looking forward to utilising this in the field of PR.
“I’ve always prided myself on attention to detail, and my dedication to providing the best service possible for the target audience and beyond. I strive to build and maintain great business relationships, and there’s nothing I love more than being able to look with pride at a good job I’ve done, whatever shape or size that may take.”
Joining Carrington
After proving himself as a reporter, Ellis is now taking a leap into the world of PR and communications, joining Carrington as a PR Accounts Executive.
So, how is he finding it so far?
“I really love it already,” he said. “The team has been so nice and welcoming, and there’s a really impressive set of creative minds in the Carrington office. They have a really impressive and varied client base which is always growing and evolving, and there’s a strong onus on each member of the team maximising their potential.
“I feel really confident each day already and that is down to the trust the team puts in you and your capabilities. There’s a great teamwork ethos but also scope and space to shine individually, which is a perfect balance to strike in any working environment.”
