In January 2025, Made in Britain tasked Carrington with ramping up awareness of its mark and amplifying its members’ stories through targeted PR. Membership was growing steadily, and whilst 50% of UK adults recognise the trademark, the organisation wanted to reach higher – why not aim for 80% or 90%? To increase awareness both within the manufacturing sector and the wider population. Increased recognition, building trust. Our goal was clear: launch a PR programme to boost visibility, spark stronger consumer recognition, and grow Made in Britain membership. From February 2025 onwards, we began engineering a steady stream of press releases, each one built to cut through the noise of this sector’s highly competitive messaging. Commissioning a YouGov survey with carefully planned questions to ensure value for money, the data formed the basis of press releases that highlighted Made in Britain’s core messages and value proposition, while securing target media coverage. As well as this, we seized upon news and current affairs and identified stories from membership data. One story that secured widespread attention was to report a surge in membership applications in the month following the first round of trade tariffs introduced by the Trump presidency. From engineering platforms to equestrian outlets, we’ve secured ambitious and tailored media wins which combine to a total of over 2 million estimated views so far. Since we began working with Made in Britain, the organisation has featured in The Manufacturer, Builders Merchants Journal (BMJ), Manufacturing Management, London Construction Magazine, as well as BBC Radio 4 and LBC. Beyond news coverage, we pressed home Made in Britain’s role in shaping policy and trade conversations. From commentary on US and EU trade agreements to the potential of a national ‘Buy British’ campaign, we positioned Made in Britain as the gold standard in verified provenance. This wasn’t just about location.
